Tumeo is TNM golf champion
14/November/2011

Innocent Tumeo blew away an incredible top-quality field of 114 contestants on the sunbaked Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) golf course on 12th November 2011 to become TNM Golf Tournament's champion.

Under the sweltering heat that soared to 36 degrees Celsius, the 28-year-old Kanjedza Township resident entered calculated risks to collect 39 stableford points and win his second title since joining the sport at handicap 23 in March this year.

The handicap 17 golfer, who received a top-of-the-range BlackBerry mobile handset and a trophy for his victory, is fast becoming a classic winner of telecommunication companies' golf competitions as he got his first title at an MTL event in June.

"This is my second victory in the three competitions. I am delighted to have a second trophy on my mantelpiece from yet another telecommunication company," marvelled Tumeo, who had 6 pars and 2 birdies in the contest's corporate invitees category.

Gladson Kuyeri got 37 points to finish as runner-up while Sande-Ian Bambra took the third slot with 36 points to count out Harold Lungu to the fourth.

In the other invitees category, Paul Chidale, who played with handicap one, reigned supreme after scoring 41 points whereas 27-handicap Doreen Mwenitete did it in the ladies' category with 35 points.

The florid event, which included a free-for-all party and a live band performance, also saw some individuals winning prizes. John Magombo and N. Zita got closest to the pin in men's event while Sophie Karanja and Beatrice Mangwana got theirs in the ladies side. Aadil Mojoo earned the longest drive credit.

During prize presentation,
TNM's chief commercial manager Charles Kamoto, who was among the 9 two-club winners, thanked the golfers for patronising the event in great numbers.
