Paul Chidale is TNM Open Golf Champion

Paul Chidale rose to the occasion when he emerged champion of this year's TNM Malawi Open Golf tournament held at Lilongwe Golf Club.

Chidale, who in previous tournaments could finish on positibn three and two, conquered a field of 120 golfers to post 144 gross points. For his feat, Chidale smiled home with an LCD Screen and a glittering trophy.

It was a day for the youth to shine as other youngsters Victor Kachepatsonga and Adam Sailesi finished second and third respectively.

For coming second, Kachepatsonga walked away with a Samsung laptop, a dongle and a trophy while Sailesi got a Nokia E5 handset with K300, 000 units.

Kachepatsonga was on song again on day one when he won nearest to the pin on whole number 13. He also got a trophy and a dinner voucher at any Sunbird Hotel.

Reknowned golfer Justin Mkandawire won nearest to the pin on day two on whole number four and shared similar prizes.

Longest drive on day one was won by Thantho Sibindi with Dingaan Chirwa winning the same on day two.

In division A, Charles Kambalame came first and he got an LG washing machine, Sonil Godambe came second and he got a Bar fridge while Thakor Mahindra finished third.

Shabir Akbanies was the champion in Division B with gross points of 184. He was followed by Frank Chinkhandwe while Jong Mun Lim was third. Likon Bailey emerged winner in senior' category with Dilly Goutam finishing second.

Speaking in an interview, Chidale said he was glad that his long time dream of being Malawi Open champion was realized.

"In the past I have always been scooping positions two and three but now I am really happy that my dream of being Malawi Open champion has been realized. I think I deserved it this time because I trained hard," he said.

TNM Chief Executive Willem Swart expressed satisfaction with the good participation of the golfers. He said he was really encouraged and pledged to continue sponsoring the tournament.

"I am really impressed with the turn out of the golfers and all I can promise them is that we will continue sponsoring this tournament for the next three to five years," said Swart.

He said they will also focus more in youth development.

During the prize presentation, TNM also made a donation of K150, 000 to the Lilongwe Golf Club.
