A Chileka-based policeman Rex Mlau hit the jackpot on May 5 2011 when he won K500,000 in the first monthly draw of the Mtolo 20 Tikolore Promotion being run by the country's pioneer mobile phone service provider TNM. Mlau, a sergeant at Chileka Police Station, beat over 3.5 million other entrants in the draw that covered entries captured between April 1 and April 30, 2011. "I'm very excited and short of words to express my delight over this sweet news. Although I participated in the competition, I never expected to win such a windfall with as little as K20 per entry," Mlau said. Ronnex Kamanga, a driver at the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) at Capital Hill in Lilongwe, won the second monthly draw prize for April and went away with a K250.000 Game Stores shopping voucher while 16 other subscribers won a brand new mountain bike each. Meanwhile, a cigarettes vendor in Limbe, George Bramu, won the top weekly prize of a Samsung laptop computer with accessories including an internet dongle and K 1,000 worth of airtime. Speaking during the draw, TNM Marketing Manager Sobhuza Ngwenya expressed excitement at the enthusiasm that the network's subscribers are showing in the promotion. "The idea behind the running of this promotion was to improve the lives of Malawians and for sure results so far prove that we are achieving that goal.
