18 May 2010
National golf team captain Victor Kachepatsonga was the toast of the day when he outclassed 112 fellow golfers at the Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) to successfully defend the TNM Malawi Open Strokeplay for a fourth successive year.
Kachepatsonga grossed 155 points ahead of Gabriel Kambalame on second position with 157 and Paul Chidale on third with 159 after two days of exciting golf action. "I am humbled at the same time exhilarated to the fourth successive time," he said. TNM spoiled Kachepatsonga with an expensive LG HD TV screen and a trophy while Kambalame got a Sony Notebook laptop and Chidale got a Sony Cybershot digital camera. Willet Karonga won Divison B category, Thando Sibindi was second and Master Mbale was third.
In Division A, Lt Colonel Chikunkha Soko was the winner followed by Nayan Kalaria and Thakora Sanjay on third position. The winners in these two categories received prizes ranging from a Samsung washing machine, Nokia 6760 phones to electric grills. TNM head of operations Charles Kamoto hailed the golfers for the good turn out, saying it was beyond expectation. "TNM is proud to be associated with this fine event, where the cream of Malawian golfers meet," said Kamoto who revealed that they had spent K6 million to make the tournament a successful one. He said the investment was worthwhile.
