HUMPHREYS WINS TNM LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Humphreys emerged winner in the TNM ladies golf championship after seeing off rival Roza Mbilizi during the two-day competition held at Blantyre Sports Club. Humphreys and Mbilizi were the only two golfers, who competed in the main championship after they were seeded according to their better handicap. On Saturday, both Humphreys and Mbilizi tied at 89 points while*the following day, the champion maintained her scores with Mbilizi dropping to 93 points. Humphreys said she was consistent throughout the tournament. "I am very excited to win the championship. Words fail me to express how excited I feel at this stage," she said. The champion, who received a washing machine and trophy, applauded TNM for sponsoring the championship. "TNM is by far the best sponsor of ladies golf in Malawi," she said. In Division A, Tsujimoto won the championship while Carol Banda and Laura Moran were second and third respectively. Lucy Ganiza finished fourth in this division.

Terry Amaro won the Division B championship and was followed by Gloria Fiwa and Beatrice Mangwana on second and third position respectively. Banda won the longest drive award while Humphreys followed suit on the next day. TNM head of human resources and administration Patrick Mtamba said the firm was happy to be associated with golf. "TNM is a premium brand associated with a premium sport. We are encouraged with how the championship was organised," he said. TNM sponsorship manager Wilma Chalulu said championship helped them to interact with their customers. "The championship has been running since 2007. It is an important event that helps us to get feedback from customers," she said.
