TNM FOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION: DONATES ONE MILLION KWACHA TO TREE PLANTING PROJECT
Zomba, 07 January 2010

TNM, on 9th December 2009 donated One Million Kwacha to Heritage Environmental Trust for a tree planting project dubbed ‘Every Child to Plant a Tree Programme’ in Zomba district.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Chikala Primary School in Zomba, TNM Chief Executive Officer Werner Schrijver said that it is sad that environmental degradation is at its peak and yet not much is being done to reverse the situation.

“ We have to do something now for the benefit of future generations” said Schrijver adding that if we do not trade carefully, the only place our children will be able to see a tree will be in a museum.

TNM believes in making the environment it operates in a better place and the conservation of trees is just one way of achieving this goal.

The project will see every child in 16 schools of the Chikala Zone in Zomba, plant a tree which the child will nurture as his/her own till it grows.
