“Emulate TNM’s Gesture of Corporate Social Responsibility” – Nenita La Rose, Executive Director - Child Help Line International.

Child rights activists from across the continent converged at Mount Soche hotel in Blantyre on 1st September, 2009 to attended a two day Africa Regional Child Helpline consultation conference.
TNM has been playing a vital role in reducing cases of child abuse as one of its social responsibilities. As such in 2008 TNM entered into a 3 year agreement with  Youth Net Counseling – YONECO, a non-political, non profit making NGO formed in September 1997 to address social injustice and reproductive health issues affecting youth.

Apart from the financial assistance, TNM sponsors the toll-free helpline numbers (tithandizane helpline) for child protection as it is through this line that many issues affecting children have been brought to light. The Tithandizane number is 8000 1234 call toll free from any TNM number.

It is TNM’s wish to support children and make Malawi and rest of the world free from any form of child abuse because children are our future, said TNM’s Chief Executive Officer Werner Schrijver at a two day fifth regional consultation meeting of Child Help lines in Africa held in Blantyre.

Minister of Gender, Children and Community Development Honorable Patricia Kaliati who was the guest of honor at the function commended TNM for its commitment in the fight against child abuse.

Executive Director for Youth Net Counseling- YONECO Mac Bain Mkandawire said TNM provided a line at the right time when cases of child abuse were rampant. Echoing Mkandawire’s observation, Child Help Line International Executive Director Nenita Veronica Maria La Rose asked the private sector to emulate TNM’s gesture and sponsor more on issues of child abuse.
