tnm Superleague starts June 27
June 08 2009

The 2009 TNM Super League is expected to kick off on June 27 and sponsors TNM, are expected to unveil the new sponsorship package soon. The league was sponsored at K 50 million for the past three seasons but at the end of the first contract, TNM disclosed they would be increasing the sponsorship in the next three years. Sulom general secretary Williams Banda said the association, affiliates and sponsors had agreed on the kick-off date. "Everything is ready. But the sponsors will officially announce the sponsorship prior to the kick-off date," he said. "There are so many new attractions that the sponsors have lined up. Let us just wait and see what they have in store for the football fraternity this season,"

Sulom has since advised clubs to submit their first and second choice home grounds. "We would also like to urge clubs to finalise pending transfers amicably. A plea also goes to newly promoted sides to complete registration of players by the end of the week," he said. Dwangwa United, Nkhata Bay United, formerly Nkhata Bay Medicals and Zomba United, formerly Zomba Medicals are the three promoted sides. The general secretary said the league's kick-off had delayed due to the national team engagements. "We wanted the players to dedicate their energies to the national team considering that they had crucial assignments in the joint African Cup of Nations," .he said.

The GS also said they wanted players that were not in the national team to recuperate after the Presidential Cup which run from December last year to April, 200S. However, clubs expressed their disappointment with the delay arguing that the arrangement was making them spend a lot of money on players who were just idle.
